WE BELIEVE
We believe that Jesus Christ lived the life we should have lived and died the death we deserved to die. His resurrection from the dead is the central fact of both human history and personal meaning in life.
We believe that by trusting in him and letting go of our self-saving strategies we find life, meaning, joy and power. We also find purpose, as we join in the mission that he calls us to.
We affirm the summary of biblical doctrine contained in the Westminster Confession of Faith, along with the Westminster Shorter Catechism and Westminster Larger Catechism. Our family of churches also recognizes the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism, as well as the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed, which the Church has affirmed across the centuries as helpful summaries of the essence and activity of God.
We Are
We are a local church serving Philadelphia’s “River Wards,” the neighborhoods north of Center City along the Delaware River — Kensington, Fishtown, Northern Liberties, and Port Richmond. We are part of a network of Liberti Churches throughout the greater Philadelphia area, and a member church in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).
We Value
WORSHIP
Corporate worship is the center of the Christian life. On each Sunday, the day Christ rose from the dead, Christians around the world come together to remember and rehearse the freedom we have received from God in Christ. Our community of worshippers meets at 2038 E. Cumberland Street every Sunday at 9 am. We would love to have you join us.
COMMUNITY
The Church is not an event or a place, but a people. Among the many biblical metaphors for the Church are a body (1 Cor. 12:12-26), a family (Galatians 6:1-2, 10), and a nation (1 Peter 2:9-10). Therefore, we are committed to loving and spiritually encouraging each other. In addition to our Sunday services, we have many weekly home meetings and numerous other events throughout the week to provide opportunities to strengthen community life.
MERCY
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” - 2 Corinthians 8:9
In an effort to model the selfless love of Christ to as many as possible, part of the mission of our church is to love the people of Philadelphia through acts of service, and also dream about what this city could become.
