UPDATE 24 - Ground & Sound
Hey all!
Now that construction has started, I wanted to let you all know about two kinds of work that have been happening at the building over the past two weeks.
First, there has been work on the ground. The GC’s team ripped up the first floor in mid-November. So the first floor on the building right now is literally dirt. It looks like an archaeological dig! In the early or mid-1800s, houses were first built on the spot. Later in the 1800s, the current structure was built to serve as a livery, which was some kind of stable. Because of the construction on the plot over the years, the dirt under the building is filled with bits of cinder, which makes the soil soft. Therefore, the construction workers have had to dig pits in the dirt so an engineer can test the firmness of the soil. All signs are positive: the GC, architect, and structural engineers are working so we can lay a secure foundation. It is a funny sight to go into the building and walk around giant holes.
Second, there has been work on the sound. We brought an acoustics engineer to test the sound transmission that comes from our building. We are working to make sure that we isolate the sound of our services. We want to be good neighbors on Lehigh Ave!
We now have two construction meetings under our belts. I spent a couple hours at the building on Wednesday, December 3. If you walk by the building, you will see the GC’s team hard at work during the week. It has been so encouraging for me to see progress!
Thanks all! And remember to continue praying about how God is calling your family to be involved with Project Sanctuary Renewed. Our pledge Sunday is December 14.
