Hey all,
I wanted to show off a cool feature at 2531 E Lehigh Ave.
Scott Hicks, one of our deacons and most frequent laborers at the building, completed a project converting the old joists from Portside Arts Center into benches for us to sit on when we worship on Sunday mornings. God provided us the whole building, and we love the continuity of using that part of the building in a new way as we worship there.
They are STURDY. Listen to this: these joists would have been built in the early 1900s. By counting the rings on the wood, Scott calculated that they were cut from trees that were around 150 years old at the time they were built into the building. This means that these benches are from trees that saw the American Revolution. These are true Philadelphia benches! Pretty cool, huh?
When we committed for our family to give to Project Sanctuary, our giving going towards a continuity/rehabilitation project like this wasn’t on my bingo card. I hope this snapshot encourages you like it does me.
Lord, strengthen Liberti to endure as a church for this city and for this neighborhood!
